Charlies Fresh Food Market began back in 1964.
At that time the store was trading as Wellworth cash store.
When Charlie and Rose married in 1967 they purchased the business and changed the trading name to C& R Tricoli.
The store was approximately 65 square metres, and had wooden floorboards. Jam packed with stock, it consisted of shelve stock, fruit and vegies, cold meats and cheeses, frozen foods and plenty of confectionary and cold cool drink.
At the time the surrounding area was bush, Walter road was just a small two way road. Charlies was the local deli, where many of Charlies frequent customers were migrants, searching for similar foods they enjoyed back home. They were made to feel welcome by Charlie and Rose.
In the year 1981 Charlies grew out of the deli and built a new store to cater for the local clientele. Carried on by the second generation, Charlies, a fresh food store famous for personal service and freshly sliced gourmet and traditional meats has grown, and in 2005 Charlies had the opportunity to expand yet again. The new store situated on the corner of Walter and Beechboro Roads is approximately 1700 square metres. The complex will see Charlies Fresh Food Market offer something special in gourmet meats, cheese, olives, as well as competitive prices on everyday commodities and staple foods. Designed to be a one stop shopping experience, Charlies has incorporated other specialty food shops. This includes a cafe/ bakery / patisserie/ fruit and vegetables / specialist butcher / liquor shop, gifts / stationary / tobacconist.
