Camera Story is a charitable organisation that champions #positive photography, based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. We use the camera lens to educate people about photography, so they can build practical skills; confidence; communicate more effectively; increase their vocational capacity; explore social issues, and build connections to other members of their community and their environment.
Camera Story is innovative in its approach; combining art, vocational training and specialised development in all its community programs. Our biggest impact has been working with communities that need an innovative approach to address social issues. Our major programs focus both on adult education, working mainly with women and youth engagement.
Examples of our programs include engaging youth in activities that encourage them to study further; providing women with an alternative and accessible career path; helping individuals with mental health issues to build their confidence and inspire hope; encourage collaboration between arguing individuals to facilitate community harmony; and discourage individuals from empowering themselves through destructive imagery.
