Western Australia’s first stone lighthouse was built in 1849. It is located on Rottnest Island and it provided a safer passage for ships, providing more to the city of Fremantle Port and Swan River Colony. The original 20-meters (66 ft) Wadjemup Lighthouse had been replaced by a much larger one that started operation 26 years later when building commenced in 1896; Western Australian’s fourth oldest extant lighthouse with an interesting history behind its construction as well – after two shipwrecks were partly caused due to poor communications from this particular site which prompted authorities into action!
The 155 steps to the top of this beautiful tower in Western Australia are no easy feat! But it’s worth the climb for an amazing view. You’ll see not only views that encompass Perth and surrounding areas, but you can also get a glimpse at what lies beyond – including endless stretches of ocean blue water.
